About the Journal

Jurnal Sosiologi Agama Indonesia (JSAI) is a peer-reviewed, open-access scholarly journal published by the Sociology of Religion Study Program, Faculty of Ushuluddin and Philosophy, Universitas Islam Negeri Ar-Raniry, Banda Aceh, Indonesia.

JSAI publishes original empirical research, theoretical and conceptual articles, historical studies, and rigorous review articles in the sociology of religion and related interdisciplinary fields. The journal examines religion as a social institution, cultural practice, belief system, source of identity and authority, moral framework, and element of social relations and social change.

The journal welcomes research on religion and politics, law, education, economy, welfare, media, migration, conflict, peacebuilding, pluralism, minority communities, ritual, gender, youth, digital culture, social movements, health, consumption, development, and other subjects that make a substantive social-scientific or humanities contribution to understanding religious or socio-religious phenomena. JSAI welcomes studies concerning Indonesia and Southeast Asia as well as wider comparative and transnational contexts.

JSAI applies a double-anonymized peer-review process and normally assigns at least two independent reviewers to manuscripts that pass editorial screening. Editorial decisions are based on academic merit, originality, theoretical and methodological adequacy, evidential and analytical quality, ethical compliance, and relevance to the journal’s aims and scope.

JSAI is published three times a year, in March, July, and November. The journal is available exclusively online and provides immediate open access to its published content.
